Insulin Not Available: What Would You Do? How Would You Survive?

A reader of Diabetic Dharma emailed me asking, “What are your plans/thoughts with the DHS second warning of possible EMP attack with grid down scenario? What would your protocol look like to stretch [or] ration your insulin and supplies? My 20 year old son has T1D. No pump.”

I do not know much of the “grid down scenario” that has been spoken of here. I do not live in the USA and if they are talking about it in Canada I am not following it. Plus I do not have time to study it.

I do think of what my protocol would be if we went somewhere to escape this crazy world… to go off the grid. It would be: Use less insulin. Hence, water fasts and saunas. Healing my pancreas and kidneys is my goal. Even if I don’t in this life time, I hope I become closer to healing them. The insulin will last longer if I am only taking a few units a day.

Diet-wise I guess I will be learning how to forage? We are not meat eaters and don’t use dairy (vegans). I am not sure it will come to this but it is one day at a time for me. Looking into the future just distracts me. I need to focus on the present. Do what I can Now to get off the insulin.
